Black and Quartz Speckled Rock

This abstract tactile image is really beautiful. I love that your eye is drawn to the crack at the top in the shape of a 'w' where the black and white combine to almost give an appearance of lace. The very slightly pinky and greenish tones really lift this otherwise monochrome image.

Black Rock on the Beach

Whilst walking along the beach with my little boy we were enjoying the sun and sand and were wondering up and down watching the waves and the water lapping the shore when we walked past this large rock which at first didn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary until this beautiful huge quartz vein appeared! I couldn't resist but take a picture just to capture how dramatic it seemed!

Black and Gold

I love the abstract effect created here by the bold yellow lichen growing on the rock surface, I think the contrast between the yellow and black is just stunning!

Tactile Coast: The project outline

During the final year of my Textile Design degree I started a project inspired by the Cornish coast. I took photos of all the rock, sea and sand surfaces around the beaches near where I live and used these textures and patterns as the inspiration for my woven textile collection. This project has stuck with me throughout my postgraduate work and the Cornish coast is still the inspiration for my textile designs today.

Over the years I have collected hundreds of photographs of coastal textures and patterns so I thought I would share them and create an ongoing project of images here on my blog. I hope you find them as inspiring as I do!
